The Sad Story Of The VCR
These handy items are the focus of the living room, not long ago. They make life more convenient and fun. You do not have to miss your favorite television shows. Record them and watch them anytime. Video rental stores pop up on the landscape, almost overnight. All types of funny moments and criminal activity is now caught forever on tape. Yet, this amazing invention is fading into the sunset. It is becoming extinct.
Many items have flourished, only to later become extinct. Any yet, there are a few things that escape the fate of most. The electric hand mixer is still a valued kitchen appliance. They have changed little. Their basic function remains the same. Why are they lucky, and the VCR not?
Perhaps it is due to the fact that something has replaced it. The DVD is simpler and easier to use. There is no tape to get tangled and messed up. You do not have to rewind a DVD movie either. It is easy to send them in the mail. When species go extinct, they are often replaced by more efficient counterparts.
A few appliances seem to defy the law of evolution. The hand blender fit into this category. It starts out as very popular. It disappears, and then resurfaces. It becomes popular again.
The again, some things are replaced and manage to survive. The manual can opener is in that category. Most people have modern electric can openers. They make good gift ideas. At the same time, they still have the manual ones. Perhaps it is due to the reliability of the manual can opener.
There are many helpful appliances that do not seem to have many upgrades. Take the countertop microwave. There are over the range types. There are ones that are also convection ovens. However, these countertop appliances are still very popular. They have not lost any of their original appeal. They have also come down a great deal in price over the years.
Maybe the downside to the VCR has helped to bring about its eminent extinction? The VCR can be a little temperamental at times. If you are not careful, they could eat your video tape. They can be a little difficult to connect to televisions. Programming them can sometimes be complicated.
Final thoughts
The VCR is an invention that is on its way out. Maybe it is due to modern technology. Enjoy your appliances while you can. Some day they may travel the path of the dinosaur.
