We have been wanting to get rid of Comcast basic cable for quite a while. The problem is they give you a great combo with their bundles that include telepone, internet, and cable TV service. When you need to remove one of these, you lose the savings of the package.

But the cable television setup just needs to go, as the service and quality is well below average. There is so much talk today about hi def, there just wasn’t much selection with Charter cable TV. So I started doing a little research on who else was providing service in my neck of the woods.

I happen to be one of the individuals who have been given a couple of options. Unlike most folks who can only choose from either the cable company or Direct TV satellite service, I have a third choice in this region. The old telephone company in this area has been altering their network. So there is an additional player with AT&T and their U-Verse service.

That doesn’t mean of course I won’t have the same issues. It would put someone in the same situation as with the cable company, because phone guys want customers to package their TV service with high speed and voice service. If the service is good, customers will be satisfied. But if its not you are in the same situation that we all hate, being stuck with cable TV that isn’t all that great.  So I’m doing a side by side comparison, cable vs Direct TV so I make the right decision.

Some reviews I found are fairly good on telecom TV service. Because it is brand new, there is sometimes a learning curve with a service like this, and some folks write bad reviews. Some of those reviews are the quite amusing, because people make the decision to write a bad review on their horrible experience and post it on the internet. Unhappy customers rail on the company like it is some giant conspiracy to screw the customer, as if the company does not want our money!

Another way to go that I am looking into is of course satellite television. Since we have six television viewers in the home, we have subscribed in the past to a premium TV package. The satellite TV choices seem to be fairly comparable, as the Directv Premier Package and the DISH Network America’s everything package are each about $110 a month. Yes that’s fairly high for cable TV, but when you make the comparison with taking your family to supper and a movie, the entertainment value is comparable. Some in my family speak Spanish, so the DIRECTV Mas bundle looks pretty good. The good thing is that there are plenty of DirecTV pros and cons to help me decide which direction to take.
